GETracing Dortmund

GET racing is the student racing team at the Technical University of Dortmund and the place to go for anyone with a passion for motorsport. Every year we build a single-seater racing car that is driven at various Formula Student events in Europe. The large number of members plan, design and build the racing car themselves and experience the process of creating a dream (website).

RACETRACER is a free and open-source software that includes a mobile application with an integrated backend connected to ROS. It is designed specifically for student racing teams and is still under development. Once completed, it will be distributed as open-source software, enabling teams to enhance their testing proces for racing vehicles. Software testing has always been a crucial aspect of software engineering. The software responsible for driving the racing car must ensure safety for both the environment and the vehicle itself, to prevent high-cost damages and threaten the safety of individuals.

To prevent crashes during the testing of new software approaches, a strict testing process is followed. It starts with unit tests, progresses to a simulation environment, and concludes with tests on a 1:8 scale model vehicle. Only after passing these stages is a software update integrated and tested on the target platform, the FS224, an electrically powered racing car that will compete in the 2024 racing events in Hungary, Germany, and France. However, verifying the software's quality on the actual vehicle remains a tedious, complex, and error-prone process.
